Reflection
It has long been pointed out by biblical scholars that Luke made it clear early in his gospel that Jesus ‘set his face like flint and headed for Jerusalem’.
What is not so obvious is that he was not going there alone and today’s gospel points out that some were invited and some asked to join him.
It does us good to pause and ask if I think
- Would Jesus have invited me to join him?
- I would have asked if I could join him?
Equally valuable would be to ask what barriers might have got in my way and what reservations I might have had that might have led Jesus to say to me, “thanks but no thanks”.
Of course we could and should make these questions present-tense!
