Reflection
In today’s gospel, Jesus reveals the power of compassion and divine authority, the importance of prayer and service, and the commitment to one’s mission. The healing ministry exercised by Jesus on Simon Peter’s mother-in-law demonstrates his compassion and authority over sickness. After experiencing healing, Peter’s mother-in-law begins to serve as a response to the blessing she received from God. This reminds us to respond to God’s grace we receive.Â
Many people were brought to Jesus for healing. Jesus healed their sickness and cast out demons. In the midst of his busy schedule of preaching, teaching and healing, Jesus finds time to pray in a solitary place. Jesus always prioritised his spiritual life. It is extremely necessary for us too to stay connected with God through a regular prayer life. In fact, it is the source of all our good works.
