Reflection:

The Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ is rich with not only teachings that are central to our faith but memories for many of us of special occasions. This feast often prompt the memory of our own First Communion, important family celebrations, baptisms, weddings, anniversaries and funerals.  It is the story of the gathering at the table, shared by Paul in his letter to the Corinthians, that gives us the images and the language that will still use when we celebrate Eucharist today.

The Gospel of the feeding of the crowd, in Luke’s Gospel gives us the framework and mission for Eucharist. We are fed but the message is clear, it is not enough to receive, we must also share. It is the Eucharist that inspires us to reach out to others, to give of our own lives, just as Christ gives himself to us in the bread and wine.

May this Feast not only renew our love for the Eucharist and its centrality in our lives but inspire us to give of ourselves in service to others.
