Daily Reflection, June 11, 2025

Reflection:

In our reading today from Acts we meet Barnabas, the Son of Encouragement’, who was very significant as a co-worker with Paul. Barnabas was someone who built bridges – he was the one who convinced the doubting disciples in Jerusalem that Saul had truly changed and was no longer a threat. In Antioch he encouraged the believers but he also saw they needed more than what he alone could offer and he went to Tarsus to find Paul. 

Barnabas brought Paul to Antioch as he recognised Paul’s gift for communicating the message of the good news. Barnabas saw what was good, encouraged it and called forth what or who was needed. We too are called to affirm what is good, and call forth the gifts of others for the common good. An encourager, does not take the credit but enables and empowers others to share their gifts. Let us give thanks for all who encourage and empower others.

Our Gospel tells of Jesus’ command to the apostles to proclaim the good news by works of compassion, sharing freely and trusting in God’s providence. This is an invitation to take risks for the sake of the good news which includes the risk of rejection. Let’s encourage one another on this journey.
