Reflection:

On the 8th July, we were informed about the demise of Fr. Francis CP, a wonderful, energetic, hardworking, joyful and a smiling brother. I lived with him during his novitiate and during his initial days of theology. It’s a tragic and shocking news to all our members in the Indian Vice Province.

When Jesus sends his apostles in pairs to proclaim his word, he gives them instructions. They are to be simple in dress, manner and attitude so that their listeners’ attention is not distracted by trivialities.

Fr. Francis will not be part of my life, if we were not part of the Passionist family. Jesus sends us in pairs not to compete or to divide but for companionship and to grow in faith. This is what Fr. Francis has been to the Indian Passionist.

However, one important thing Jesus advises them about is to try and discern the nature of those they will be reaching out to, and to be wary of certain people. If after the initial greetings they receive positive vibes from the people, they need to stay and proclaim the gospel. If they meet only negativity, they are not to feel upset. Instead, they must proceed elsewhere and continue the mission he has entrusted to them.

Fr. Francis was part of the Parish team in India, the Philippines, and in PNG. He was part of the formation team and a Novice Master at the time of his death. He had a variety of ministries to a wide range of people. Christ sent him to His people, and they accepted him and treated and took care of him with utmost love. His negative experiences were nullified by the many positive people he came in contact with.

Prayers for Fr. Francis that he would rest with Christ and we will never shy away from talking or proclaiming Christ in any given situations.
