Reflection
As 2024 comes to a close, it’s hard not to feel exhausted. Between wars, divisive elections, and personal struggles 2024, like all other years has had its moments.
As we start our season of advent, Jesus in Luke 21:25-36, Jesus describes cosmic signs and turmoil but reassures us: “Stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand.” These are words of hope, not fear—a reminder that, even in the chaos, God is working to bring redemption.
Advent is a chance to stop, to breathe, and to turn our tiredness and frustrations into prayer. Jesus warns us not to let the “cares of life” weigh us down or let our hearts become hardened. Instead, He calls us to stay awake, attentive to His love and presence in our lives.
St. Paul of the Cross reminds us, “When you feel most tired, place your heart at the foot of the cross. There, you will find the strength to stand firm, raise your head, and hope in the Lord who will never abandon you.”
This Advent, let’s let go of the distractions and burdens that harden our hearts. Christ wants to meet us in our weariness, to fill us with His hope, love, and truth.
Reflection Questions:
- Where do I need Christ’s light in my life?
- What burdens can I entrust to Him this Advent
