Reflection:
The journey to Emmaus is more than a story—it’s a mirror of our own walk through life and faith. In Luke 24:13–35, we meet two disciples weighed down by grief and confusion. They had hoped Jesus was the one to redeem Israel, but His death shattered that hope. As they walked, a stranger joined them, listening patiently and gently opening the Scriptures to them. Their hearts began to stir, but they still did not recognize Him.
How often do we walk our own roads, not realizing that Christ is right beside us?
This passage reminds us that Jesus meets us where we are—especially in our questions, sadness, and searching. He listens. He teaches. And, most powerfully, He reveals Himself in the breaking of the bread. It’s in that moment of shared table, of simple communion, that their eyes are opened.
For us today, this encounter speaks to the power of presence, of Scripture, and of the Eucharist. Christ continues to walk with us, to speak through His Word, and to make Himself known in the breaking of bread. We only need to invite Him in—just as the disciples did when they said, “Stay with us.”
May we, like them, recognize Him in our midst and feel our hearts burn with renewed hope and joy. And may we go forth, eager to share the Good News: He is risen. He is with us. Always.
