With a Congregation spanning 62 countries, the Passionists work in many locations where the community itself is classified as ‘international’. Here the term ‘international’ can refer to the fact that men from various countries live and work together, sharing life and mission from the base of a local community. While the mix of cultures and languages can be challenging, the local community is the essence of our religious life and our ministry flows from this basis.
The reality of a community being composed of many different nationalities often means that the Passionist mission can be far more effective in that place due to the fact that we can reach out to many more people through our preaching and communication of the love of God seen so clearly in the passion of Jesus. In another sense a community may be ‘international’ precisely because it is under the direct care of the Superior General and exists because of the special needs of a particular place.
One such example is our community in Bethany, Israel which is staffed by men from several nations in order to serve the Palestinian Christians and also the many Christian migrant workers present in Israel today.
